Connie Cappos

I am the founder and director of Kupukupu Yoga, which I opened in Pahoa, Hawaii in 2012. Like many, my relationship with Yoga started on a quest to find a healthier way to live. After 25 years of smoking, unhealthy living, obesity, stress, and chronic pain, it was through yoga that I was able to finally get my mind, body, and spirit reconnected and live happily.

I have been studying, practicing, and teaching yoga since 1998. My yogic path began at Yoga Oasis retreat center in Puna, Hawaii where I trained under Hayward Coleman daily, and many other established teachers who would guest teach and do residencies there. I studied and was introduced to many different styles and aspects of yoga. I eventually became a staff member, and then a teacher, receiving my 200-hour yoga teachers’ certificate in 2009. I taught and led wellness retreats for Yoga Oasis before opening Kupukupu Yoga in Pahoa in 2012. I was forced to quickly close the studio in 2014 due to a volcanic eruption headed for the front door. I just as quickly relocated to Hawaiian Sanctuary Retreat Center. From 2014 -2020, I managed the yoga program and was the mentor/teacher/facilitator for the yoga intern program which I created at the retreat center. I worked closely with the in-terns, guiding them to go deeper into their own practice and understanding of the yogic teachings. I also have been part of 4 different 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training teams, taught various workshops and at yoga festivals; including teaching the opening class to hundreds at the Hawaii Yoga Festival in 2017 and being chosen as Ambassador representing the United States at the International Yoga Festival in Rishikesh, India in 2023 and again in 2024.

In early 2020, I went to India to study with various yoga masters and spiritual leaders. The experience had an impact on my teachings and personal relationship with yoga. I have returned to India every year since as a student, studying with my teachers and spiritual leaders.

I am committed and dedicated to my own daily yoga practice, it is as important to me as sharing my knowledge of yoga with others. I teach my regular classes throughout the week, mostly active flow and a gentle class for beginners and seniors . I am currently teaching in the studio in Hawaii and at Okreblue Yoga Retreat Center in Greece during the summer months. I lead yoga and wellness retreats in Hawaii and Greece. In the future I plan to expand and bring these retreats to different locals globally.

I will be going back to India March 2025 for a Yoga pilgrimage and to enter immersive studies with my teacher and spiritual leaders in preparation for my upcoming retreats and workshops.

I am also a world traveler, a celebrity wardrobe stylist, manage my own tropical vacation rental and grow a lot of my own food organically. I am passionate about health, wellness and expansion.

In my classes I use my years of experience on the mat to combine an active practice of Hatha yoga, Pranayama, Kriyas , Qi Gong, and yoga therapy, in a fun, safe and welcoming environment.
